Why is practice important? When not moving toward integration, complex systems like our lives move toward either chaos or rigidity, rather than the flexible harmonious flow of integrative wellbeing. ~ Dr Daniel Siegel
Below are links to the online audio and downloads for all recent weekly mindfulness practice meditations 'Free of Charge - Open to All'. Practising Mindfulness / Presence together may be the kindest action we can take for our own growth and that of humanity because we are all connected. As we change individually we assist in making shifts in the collective. Connecting with our deep wellbeing empowers us to take action for a happier and more caring world.
Mindfulness Meditation Practice - Thursday 27 December 2018
OM is the symbol of the universal heartbeat; it is not a word. And as you come closer and closer to the universal heartbeat, the by-product is a deepening silence. Shantih means silence and it is always repeated three times because by the time you reach to the fourth, you are no more – just the silence has remained. You have disappeared as an entity separate from the universe. www.cdbaby.com/cd/ragani3

Mindfulness Meditation ~ Jon Kabat-Zinn
Mindfulness is considered the heart of Buddhist meditation. But its essence is universal and of deep practical benefit to everyone. In Wherever You Go, There You Are, Jon Kabat-Zinn maps out a simple path for cultivating mindfulness in our lives, and awakening us to the unique beauty and possibilities of each present moment.. www.youtube.com/watch?

Sound is our trouble; silence is our liberation. All other meditations are different forms of witnessing, but witnessing is present in every kind of meditation as an essential part. Vipassana Page
How to Welcome a More Mindful New Year ~ Erin Lee
As an advocate of mindfulness as a way of life, I invite you to incorporate mindfulness as a part of your New Year Resolutions. You might want to commit to doing one thing mindfully per day, or establish a more routine mindfulness practice. You might even want to get yourself formally trained in mindfulness, if you have been toying with the idea for some time. Perhaps you already have a New Year Resolution in mind, and you could be more mindful about achieving or sticking with it." www.youtube.com/watch?

Om The syllable "om" is first described as all-encompassing mystical entity in the Upanishads. Today, in all Hindu art and all over India and Nepal, 'om' can be seen virtually everywhere, a common sign for Hinduism and its philosophy and theology. Hindus believe that as creation began, the divine, all-encompassing consciousness took the form of the first and original vibration manifesting as sound "OM".

Silent Night
How the world's most famous Christmas carol came to be written and set to music. In 1818, a roving band of actors was performing in towns throughout the Austrian Alps. On December 23 they arrived at Oberndorf, a village near Salzburg where they were to re-enact the story of Christ's birth in the small Church of St. Nicholas. Unfortunately, the St. Nicholas' church organ wasn't working and would not be repaired before Christmas. Because the church organ was out of commission, the actors presented their Christmas drama in a private home. That Christmas presentation of the events in the first chapters of Matthew and Luke put assistant pastor Josef Mohr in a meditative mood. Instead of walking straight to his house that night, Mohr took a longer way home. The longer path took him up over a hill overlooking the village. From that hilltop, Mohr looked down on the peaceful snow-covered village. Reveling in majestic silence of the wintry night, Mohr gazed down at the glowing Christmas-card like scene. His thoughts about the Christmas play he had just seen made him remember a poem he had written a couple of years before. That poem was about the night when angels announced the birth of the long-awaited Messiah to shepherds on a hillside. www.icce.rug.nl

Low Self-Esteem ~ The Dalai Lama
His response was to encourage individuals to realise their own self-worth, that we all have the potential to become enlightened, to recognise our Buddha-nature. This is similar to the Kabbalistic notion of the divine spark which is hidden by our human form and layers of defensiveness and fear.
Christianity may recognise the divine inner soul of mankind but has chosen to emphasise the power of our sinful natures which can be dispelled only through faith in the healing power of Jesus Christ. meta-md.com

Guided Mindfulness Meditations ~ Jon Kabat-Zinn
I have met literally thousands of people who told me that these practices put them in touch with their own wholeness and robust wellbeing, even in the face of great life and health challenges. This phenomenon will continue, because the need for mindfulness in our lives and in our world is greater than ever and becoming even more so day by day.
The most important thing is that each of us meet ourselves in the deepest of ways. These mindfulness practices are a direct path to that intimate, healing, and on-going encounter. www.mindfulnesscds.com
Life is like a cup of coffee
A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups – porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite – telling them to help themselves to the coffee. When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: . . . www.youtube.com/watch?

Mindfulness Meditation for a Frantic World ~ Professor Mark Williams
MINDFULNESS reveals a set of simple yet powerful practices that can be incorporated into daily life to help break the cycle of unhappiness, stress, anxiety and mental exhaustion and promote genuine joie de vivre. It's the kind of happiness that gets into your bones. It seeps into everything you do and helps you meet the worst that life can throw at you with new courage. More importantly, it also works for people who are not depressed but who are struggling to keep up with the constant demands of the modern world. MINDFULNESS focuses on promoting joy and peace rather than banishing unhappiness. It is precisely focused to help ordinary people boost their happiness and confidence levels whilst also reducing anxiety, stress and irritability. www.youtube.com/watch?

Anxiety ~ Tara Brach
The nature of being human is that we get caught in anger and judgment, hurt and fear. Our conditioned mind is filled with distractions, including worry-thoughts that continually create anxiety in the body. By gathering and collecting the attention, the mind can settle and allow for a relaxed, wakeful presence. This talk explores what it means to be without anxiety towards this universal emotional conditioning as it appears in ourselves and others. This meditation guides us in relaxing the body, and then establishing the breath as a home base. Condemning imperfection binds our identity with an imperfect self. As we learn to pause and open to the direct embodied experience of emotions, we discover a space of presence that is filled with compassion and wisdom. Like the ocean, we can include difficult waves of experience and yet remember our inherent vastness, mystery and wholeness. https://www.youtube.com/watch

A brief climate change video essay on the environmental impacts of veganism, and how we can re frame going vegan less as a lifestyle and more as an aspiration. Happiness is all in your mind ~ Gen Kelsang Nyema
Simple, profound truths are the realm of this Buddhist nun. Her message? The gift of happiness truly lies within our own hearts and minds. Gen Kelsang Nyema, exuding a peacefulness that immediately connects with the audience, starts by asking three questions: Are you having a good day? Why? Tomorrow, would you rather have a good day or a bad day? She teaches that we cannot put our happiness at the whim of other people and of circumstances. If we want to be happy, we have to "stop outsourcing our happiness to other people" and cultivate a source of inner peace. What happens next is quite astounding. The whole crowd of 350+ people proceeds to meditate with Nyema. There's a little squirming at first, but as she leads the audience through a calm citation of how to rest the mind, audience members feel a collective relaxation flow into the room and through the people. Fascinating! Refreshing. https://www.youtube.com/watch

Mindfulness Meditation Practice - Thursday 1 November 2018
The first WHO Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health was held in Geneva on 30 October – 1 November 2018.
Air Pollution in our cities and our homes kills 7 million people every year and accelerates climate change. Please support the global campaign #Breathelife to reduce air pollution, improve health and preserve our climate.
The IAAF and UN Environment (UNEP) announced in May that they were joining forces to address the issue of poor air quality, which has led to seven million deaths globally, according to a World Health Organisation study.
The important thing is to raise the awareness among athletes and recreational runners of how important air quality is for their health. In order to improve air quality, we need to monitor it.

Vipassana PageFor decades, pollution and its harmful effects on people’s health, the environment, and the planet have been neglected both by Governments and the international development agenda. Yet, pollution is the largest environmental cause of disease and death in the world today, responsible for an estimated 9 million premature deaths.
The Lancet Commission on pollution and health addresses the full health and economic costs of air, water, and soil pollution. Through analyses of existing and emerging data, the Commission reveals pollution’s severe and underreported contribution to the Global Burden of Disease. It uncovers the economic costs of pollution to low-income and middle-income countries. The Commission will inform key decision makers around the world about the burden that pollution places on health and economic development, and about available cost-effective pollution control solutions and strategies.

Unlocking the 4th Industrial Revolution Technology Potential in Accelerating the Circular Economy. What are the key challenges in electronics, plastics and the food- and bio-economy currently hampering the transition to a circular economy at scale and speed?
A circular economy is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose) in which we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life.

This Sacred Journey ~ Pema Chödrön: 18 October 2018
For over forty years, Pema Chödrön has embraced our faults, our fears, and our failings, reflecting them back to us with compassion, insight, and the possibility of freedom.
As she entered the ninth decade of her life, Pema Chödrön spent a year in solitary retreat working deeply with traditional Tibetan Buddhist teachings on death, including teachings on the bardos from The Tibetan Book of the Dead. Christ Consciousness ~ John Main
It becomes more evident each year that meditation, as a way of friendship and compassion, builds a bridge of the spirit between peoples of different faiths, between rich and poor, and between those suffering conflict or division. The great social and psychological distresses of modern society call for a change of mind and heart, for a deep contemplative response. John Main believed that each human being, whatever their lifestyle, is called to this spiritual depth and that the foundations of civilisation rest upon the contemplative consciousness.

PM's words at World Mental Health Day reception: 10 October 2018
We are not looking after our health if we are not looking after our mental health. And we need that true parity between physical and mental health, not just in our health systems but elsewhere as well – in our classrooms, our workplaces, in our communities too.
That is why we were so pleased this week to host the first ever Global Ministerial Summit on mental health. And in this landmark agreement we see more than 50 countries have supported the declaration to achieve equity for mental health in the 21st Century.
